Student Collaborations: Nonprofit Immersion Program Part 1
Student Experience. Collaboration. Communities. Equitable Design. If you know the NDC, you know these are essential aspects of how we have served the Columbus and Central Ohio region over the last 37 years – and evident in our collaboration with Ohio State University’s Nonprofit Immersion Program (NPIP), a partnership now entering its second year.
Nonprofit Immersion Program Interns, Akane Ohara (L) and Jenna Paskey (R)
NPIP matches OSU undergraduate students with local nonprofit organizations in an immersive environment for a deeper insight into the inner workings of nonprofits. Students are placed with an organization for the academic year, serving as non-voting members of the organization board and volunteering with the organization to understand the day-to-day programs and services offered. Students also identify, design and implement a comprehensive project aimed to fulfill the needs of the organization.
In the Fall of 2019, NDC welcomed Akane Ohara (BS Business Administration, Marketing/BA Psychology) and Jenna Paskey (BA Public Management, Leadership and Policy). Throughout the Fall of 2019, Akane and Jenna met regularly with NDC staff, attended board meetings and events, and developed their project: a mural competition aimed to continue conversations on diversity and inclusion on OSU’s campus.
